What to expect

Taught from the first tile

We start at the very beginning: what the tiles are, how a hand comes together, and how a game actually flows. Small table, patient teacher, real tiles in your hands from the start. By the end of the night you'll have played, for real.

Meet your host

Hosted by Courtney

Courtney fell completely for American mahjong, and along the way learned exactly how to bring someone brand new into it without overwhelming them. She teaches across South Denver, and she'll be leading your first lesson at Carboy, one tile at a time.

Good to know

Made for total beginners

This one is built for people who have never played. No rules to study first, nothing to bring, no partner needed. If you've been curious about mahjong but had no idea where to start, this is the place to start. We keep the table small, just eight seats, so everyone gets real attention and no one gets left behind.

Already know the game and just want to play? Come to one of our guided open-play evenings instead, they're built for players with a game or two under their belt.
